Meet Us and Learn About Our Program

Welcome to our Literacy Coaching website. We believe a coach is a thought partner. Someone to help you work on a goal, brainstorm your way past an obstacle, and grow new ideas. We believe coaching is for all of us, at any point in our career, to help us continue to learn and grow. We don’t have all the answers, but we invite you to learn, study, chat, and laugh with us.

Pete Gangi has over 23 years of teaching and literacy coaching experience. He has presented at national literacy conferences, hosted summer literacy institutes, and provided professional development in districts across Long Island. Pete lives in Massapequa Park with his wife, three girls, and puppy.

Dr. Jennifer Brady has been an educator for 25 years. This is her 15th year as a Literacy Coach. Prior to that she taught first grade for 11 years. Her passions include teaching writing, baking and sailing in Maine.

We have designed our program so teachers can customize when, where, and how they want to continue their learning. The program is designed for maximum flexibility. Reach out to us at any time and we can set up sessions around your specific needs. Learn more by reading the chart below.

Days/Time Frame

What Else Do I Need to Know?

Cycle Coaching

  • You can sign up to work with a coach on the two days each cycle we are in your building.
  • This typically involves 3 periods: a planning period, an in-classroom lesson period & a debrief.
  • NJL: Days 1 & 2
  • Birch: Days 3 & 4
  • Chatterton: Days 5 & 6
  • This option offers the most one-on-one coaching time within the program.
  • You can work with a coach for all or part of the school year.
  • Let a coach or building administrator know if you’re interested in this option.

Lab Sites

  • A chance to participate in a lesson taught in a classroom.
  • Once per month, October through May.
  • These sites are advertised via email & you reply if you’re interested.
  • Your building administrators may give you guidelines for participating.

Podcasts

  • Short, 5-8 minute, audio recordings on hot topics.
  • Put out via email periodically.
  • You can listen to these on-demand anywhere you can access your email!

  • Groups meet during the school day via Zoom roughly 5-6 times across the year.
  • Fun way to collaborate with colleagues across the district on a topic of interest.
