Community Leaders Join Lakeside for Annual Read Aloud Event

School administrators, local leaders, business owners, first responders and other volunteers visited Lakeside classrooms on Nov. 14 for the school’s annual Community Read Aloud, sharing a pre-selected book with students.
Co-organized by PTA members Mrs. Bachrach, Mrs. Kaplan, Mrs. Rosengart and Mrs. Schwartz and school librarian Melissa Levine, this year’s PARP celebration also features author visits from Alyssa Satin Capucilli, author of the Biscuit books and Jay Cooper, illustrator of The Last Comics on Earth books, along with themed spirit days that keep everyone excited about reading all week long.
“This year’s theme, Reading is Sweet, reminds us that books come in every flavor – and there is always something inside a book that brings a reading treat for every reader,” noted Levine ahead of the read-aloud. “Some make us laugh, some make us think, and all of them fill our imaginations with something special.
Volunteers, including Sen. Steve Rhoads, Legis. Seth Koslow, and Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray, among others, brought enthusiasm and warm energy to their read-aloud sessions, helping students kick off PARP Week on a joyful note.
