Merrick Welcomes Back Students for New School Year

The Merrick School District kicked off the 2025–26 school year on Sept. 2, welcoming bright smiles and eager minds from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade at Lakeside, Chatterton and Birch.  

With colorful classrooms, excited teachers and staff, and a renewed commitment to academic excellence and joyful learning, the first day was filled with warm greetings, fresh supplies, and plenty of photo-worthy moments. 

Superintendent Diana Ketcham shared, “There’s nothing quite like the energy of the first day of school. We’re thrilled to have our students back and ready to learn, grow, and thrive. As the year begins, the district remains dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for all learners.”
