Merrick Spanish Classes Honor Hispanic Heritage Month

Students in Señora Casey and Señora Boritz’s Spanish classes across the Merrick Union Free School District have been honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
Held this year from September 15 to October 15, each day, students explore the vibrant cultures, rich traditions, and powerful influences of Spanish-speaking communities around the world.
“Through engaging morning announcements, they’ve been learning fun facts about traditional foods, clothing styles, influential leaders, and unique geography across all of Latin America and Spain,” Casey noted.
“Students even enjoy a Spanish-language joke on Thursdays, and each announcement ends with a Spanish Word of the Day to expand their vocabulary and global awareness,” added Bortiz. “This celebration encourages our students to appreciate and embrace the diversity that strengthens our world.”
