Veteran Collects Donations From Birch Students “Soup”er Bowl Food Drive

Students at Birch School recently demonstrated outstanding generosity through a successful “Soup”er Bowl food drive organized by the Student Council.
In the spirit of friendly competition and community service, students were invited to vote for the team they believed would win the Super Bowl by placing donated cans of food into collection boxes labeled for the New England Patriots or the Seattle Seahawks. The engaging activity fostered school spirit while encouraging students to contribute to a meaningful cause.
The drive resulted in a significant collection of nonperishable food items, all of which were donated to support the Nassau County Food Pantry. Veteran Mike Felix visited Birch Lane Elementary School to collect the donations on behalf of the pantry.
During his visit, Mr. Felix also met with students in Jessica Giovino’s and Debra Vernice’s classes. He shared personal stories about his service as a photographer during the Vietnam War and spoke about the important role the food pantry plays in assisting families throughout the local community.
